The 2011 AGM and

and fun was had by all. A brief thank you and

for all their hard work and assistance to the AFS over the
years.

March Technical Speaker Recap—
Advamcements
in
Monitoring and

Brian Began was an excellent guest speaker keeping us
entertained for the afternoon covering the following topics:
*Common
Practices
*Oxide Control – Fluxing
*Recent Advancements – Fluxing, granular vs powder
*Hydrogen Control – Rotary Degassing
*The Need for Automation
During the talk Brian discussed a Flux Case Study.
The experiment utilized a ladle on a scale with 2000
lbs of metal poured into it.
This process was repeated a few times, once with no
flux and the remaining pours with flux.
Here
are the results:
-No flux had a 40 lbs loss of metal (2%)
-GR6512 flux had a 9 lbs loss of metal (0.46%)
-Flux A had a 20 lbs loss of metal
(1%)
Thank you to everyone who came out to make this event a

The fall
Penticton Golf Tournament was again a great success with
some beautiful weather and great company!

There were many highs to the day - one being Crystal finally

Some maybe enjoyed a little too close... Casey.

AFS Northwest Regional Update
|
The AFS Northwest Regional was a hit again this year
with Barry Spence in the Chair position.
Here is a great thank you letter from Joanne
& Bob Anderson:
Dear Barry & Cheryl,
Just wanted to let you and your committee know what
a great job you did for the NW Regional Conference.
You have set the bar very high for future
conferences.
Cheryl you were a great hostess to all the ladies
and made everyone feel very welcome.
I know what a difficult task it is and you
are a “Rock Star”.
To
both of you – it’s great to have you both involved
(the Next Generation) and I know Dennis is very
proud.
Again, thanks for a great location, fun activities,
and good times.
Fondly,
Joanne & Bob Anderson
